Joining the Ranks of the Successful Motivational speakers

Posted By Ruth Harmon

Motivational-SpeakersMotivational speakers borrow their craft or business from the orators of ancient civilizations like the Romans. Works like Cicero’s have been heralded as one of the earliest works of motivational speeches, and since then, more or and more people have found a line of through giving speeches. Somewhere along the timeline, the name of “orators” were replaced by “motivational speakers”, and that’s is what people still call them today.

Motivational speeches could be of any topic – it’s up to the motivational speakers to convey the passion of the topic and impart a lasting message to their audiences. With good experience in public speaking, the ability to feel the mood of the audience, and with a love for a certain topic or situation, any person could become a good motivational speaker. If a person wants to try to get into motivational speaking, here are a few ways on how to get into it:

•    Identify a topic that a person feels strongly about

A person needs to connect with the topic, it has to be something he feels very strongly about. He won’t be a good motivational speaker if he doesn’t really care about the topic he’s talking about. It could be a social problem, a way to success, virtually anything is on the table. It’s just a matter of finding that topic that a person and his audience could connect to.

•    The topic needs to be relevant

While some topics may stand the test of time and still manage to be relevant today (such as some social problems), a person will notice that motivational speakers won’t talk about the role of women in the 1950’s or why quills and pens are the best writing implements ever. Audiences want to hear why they should care about a certain topic that exists right now.

•    A person needs to be an expert on the topic

If a person wants to talk about a certain topic, he needs to know the topic inside out. Whether there are any latest developments regarding the topic, its history (if it has any), and the different viewpoints people have about it. Open forums are common after a motivational speech, and people will be asking all sorts of questions about the topic and the speech.

The person who delivered the speech should be able to answer the questions without any problems, and sound well-learned when he does. It adds to the person’s credibility as an expert on the topic and will mostly likely be called on to give the talk again to another audience to inspire them.

•    Change the delivery depending on the audience

A group of students will be engaged differently as a group of professionals. A person giving a motivational speech needs to be able to change and adapt his topic delivery based on the audience he’s facing. If he feels that a certain audience won’t like a lecture-like talk, then maybe he could add in a few activities or put a lot of humor.

•    Enroll in public-speaking classes

Motivational-SpeakerSome like to practice talking in front of mirrors or practice on their friends or families, but a proper public-speaking class will teach a person techniques on delivery and train him with talking to a large group of people he doesn’t know. And since the teachers will be professional public speakers, they will be able to point out and correct any mistakes that a person might make and suggest improvements.

•    Plan ahead and think about materials and props

Some motivational speakers use props to illustrate their points, other use Power Point presentations and videos to help them and provide the audience with a visual guide.

The History Of Callaway Golf

Posted By Mary Tucker

Callaway Golf is currently one of the world’s leading manufacturers of golf equipment as well as golf lifestyle apparel. It is known for its expertise in combining both traditional and new technologies. But what is the story behind this popular golf brand that has gained acclaim for its oversized club heads?

Callaway Golf

Callaway Golf started in the early 1980s (in 1982 to be exact) –

Sixty year-old Ely Callaway Jr. was at the time the president of Burlington Industries, a popular textile company and founder of a world-class winery in Southern California. Callaway was fond of playing golf and his favorite brand of golf clubs was Hickory Sticks. When the business of Hickory Sticks started going down, they approached him and asked him to invest in their brand.Callaway bought half of the company and it was renamed Callaway Hickory Stick.

After a few years he bought the rest of the company shares and it was renamed Callaway Golf. But this purchase was just the start of the rise of Callaway Golf as one of the world’s leading brands of golf equipment.

Ely started reinventing and innovating the golf club, changing the look, feel and performance of sporting equipment that had been the same for the past 250 years.

In 1986, the company started using computer-controlled manufacturing machines to make golfing equipment. This innovation gave birth to the popular Big Bertha drivers, the first of which came out in 1991. These large-headed clubs (up to 190 cubic centimeters) were designed by Richard Helmstetter who was at the time the top designer of the company. The original Big Bertha was a hit and was the predecessor of a whole line of golf clubs with exotic materials and oversized heads. These golf clubs rose to become the most popular golf clubs as golfers found that they liked their performance out on the green.

In 1997, Callaway acquired Odyssey Sports and made it a subsidiary. This led to a line of putters that came out in 2000.In 2002, equipment designer Roger Cleveland came up with the Callaway Golf Forced Wedges. That same year, designer Chuck Yash came up with a new golf ball. Aerodynamic computer programs were used to design the Rule 35, a ball that boasted of complete performance in an attempt to combine the features of balls made for distance or height and so on. In 2003, the company came up with its own line of footwear and eventually other golf lifestyle products.

The management and leadership of the company have changed a couple of times in the past few years but Ely Callaway Jr.’s love for golf and the company was indeed a constant guide up until his death in 2001. His philosophy still lives on, though, made evident by the company’s resounding success in the market.

Today, the American company continues to design, manufacture, market, and sell its golf equipment. The golf company has various ways of selling the equipment—through wholesale, retail, and even online. There are also trade-in options and secondhand or pre-owned stores specifically for their products. There is even a website solely for secondhand Callaway products. Currently, Callaway sells its products in more than 110 countries.

Golf BallThe company has also acquired more subsidiaries. Currently, it is the umbrella group of Odyssey putters, Top-Flite, Strata and Ben Hogan. Callaway has also been a part of a number of endorsement deals with the world’s top golfers as well as partnerships with a number of companies like Nintendo.

The product line of Callaway now includes various golf clubs (drivers, irons, fairway woods, wedges, hybrids), balls, golfing apparel, footwear and accessories.

While they have the noble intention of saving animals from horrendous conditions, they are still challenged by many things.

Among these hurdles they struggle to overcome are: difference in methods of animal care, dwindling financial resources, lack of government support in some countries, and lack of public awareness about animal welfare.

What is Animal Welfare?

Lack of awareness is the hardest challenge that animal groups face, so they start off by letting the public know more about animals, pets and their welfare. What is animal welfare, anyway? The simplest definition of animal welfare is the holistic well-being of animals. It encompasses the general state of the animal and how it copes with the conditions of life. Their welfare is in excellent condition if they are safe, secured, healthy, comfortable, well-nourished with proper food, and are free from pain and distress.

Animal welfare is achieved by ensuring that the physical and mental needs of the animal are met, and all these are possible through various activities like veterinary health assistance, adequate shelter, proper nutrition, compassionate care and humane slaughter.

Some Principles in Animal Welfare

People who work closely with and for animals are the ones who initially see the lapses in animal care. They devise ways to keep animals healthy, safe, disease-free and comfortable. Different professions and organizations have anchored their animal welfare policy on some animal well-being principles known around the world. Universally, animals must be free from hunger, thirst, discomfort, disease, injury, pain, fear and distress.

They should also have the means to express their normal behavior. They should not be restricted to show their feelings naturally. And the age-old principle of mutual benefits between humans and animals also apply to animal welfare policies. Mutual benefit goes like this: If we, humans, care for animals in the right way, then the animals will provide for us abundantly in return.

How to Address Animal Welfare

Various groups caring for animals and pets strive to find ways to provide for adequate health and well-being of these animals. They address animal welfare through the provision of sufficient food, enough potable water, and adequate animal shelter. These groups are also dedicated to improve the health of the animals through regular animal veterinary check-ups. However, they can’t do this for long without some assistance from other entities.

Domesticated animals under their care are available for pet adoption by responsible pet owners. Animals that can’t be taken as pets are continuously cared for naturally. Continuous maintenance of animal needs is a serious matter, necessitating proper funding and conscientious funds use.

Amazing Animal Rescue Shelters

Posted By Admin

Over the years, more and more organizations are being established with the aim of rescuing animals and spreading the message of compassionate treatment to these creatures. This has been happening worldwide.

There are international animal rescue organizations that save rare and endangered species, such as orangutans, bears, marine creatures, and certain bird species. This requires worldwide funding and support, as well as support from the government. Many of these organizations lobby for changes in legislation in the countries where these creatures are located.

There are also animal sanctuaries that are special places that aim to take care of wild and domestic animals. Some animal sanctuaries also committed to take care of these animals on a permanent basis. However, there are some animal sanctuaries that also have separate wildlife rehabilitation teams. These teams take care of wild animals and eventually return them to their natural environment.

pet transportOn a smaller scale, community-wide animal rescue shelters are cropping up in small towns and cities. These rescue shelters usually rescue and care for domestic animals, commonly cats and dogs that have been abandoned in the streets. When sufficiently cared for, these animals are usually available for adoption. Animal rescue shelters often look for homes that are willing to take these animals in.

There are shelters where there are so many sick animals, causing too much difficulty in taking care of all of them. Unfortunately, some shelters have resorted to euthanasia due to lack of space or facilities. However, many no-kill animal advocacy groups fight against this practice and start to think of ways to care for these animals amidst lack of facilities. In Portland, Oregon, Multnomah County Animal Services have devised strategies to increase the save rate of animals. Their programs include looking for community partners who are willing to be private shelters and looking for private homes to foster animals.

Part of humane animal treatment and taking care of pets is proper education. For instance, pet owners should be educated on ways to spay or neuter their pets. This is also one way to reduce the spread of unwanted animals. People are also encouraged not to purchase pets and animals from commercial breeding operations and puppy mills. Puppy mills are breeders of dogs. They usually sell these bred dogs to pet stores, websites or classified ads. This wholesale operation is inhumane, but there is minimum government legislation to combat this.

animalMany animal advocacy groups are continuing to lobby for puppy mills to be closed down. Some programs also decided to establish help desks to educate pet owners on how to take care of their animals properly. They also encourage these owners to keep their animals at home rather than giving them up for adoption.

On the opposite side of the coin, there are also pet education programs that discourage people from animal hoarding. Taking care of animals at home can be addictive, but there is a limit and we have to be familiar about them, so we will know when enough is enough.

These pet shelters do so much for the community. They take care of animal placement, they do pet fostering, rehabilitation, pet transport, and create events and activities for fund-raising and awareness.

If you are part of an animal rescue organization or just an animal rescue advocate, how can you educate people and make them aware of humane animal treatment? Awareness often begins with a personal message, which you imbibe through a lifestyle choice. People can listen to your message, but there is greater impact when they see action.

Posting animal rescue articles and pictures on our social media accounts is also a big help. If you are part of an organization and you want to make a more significant impact in your community, it helps to think of campaigns to create traffic into your website. If you have the budget, you may employ the help of an internet marketing specialist. Most specialists work with all kinds of budgets. Events such as adopt-a-pet day are also a great idea. You may seek the support or partnership of civic organizations in your area, such as schools, community centers or even local businesses.

Whether big or small, we can contribute to rescuing animals, providing them with shelter and preventing inhumane treatment. Animals, just like us, are also living creatures and they deserve the same respect and dignity we receive.
